Here I intend to allay your fears concerning the use of Hypnosis, the myths and mystery surrounding it which are totally undeserved, and to make clear that what takes place is very normal and non-magical, with good results. In fact hypnosis is something that we all go through at least twice a day, once when we are dropping off to sleep at night and again when we awake in the morning. It's that Sunday morning feel 'I should open my eyes, I should get up but I actually can't be bothered!' Yet you can hear the cars passing by, the dogs barking, if you needed to get up, quite simply you would!
There is absolutely no question of being controlled or manipulated, or even induced into a deep trance state. A person in hypnosis (often referred to as Conscious) is not ‘asleep’ – they are often more aware of what is taking place than usual and their senses function more efficiently than normal. Nobody could possibly be made to do anything that they did not want to do, and everybody (except the truly mentally sub-normal, very young children or inebriates) can enter the hypnotic state. People who say or think, ‘Nobody could get me under’, or ‘I wouldn’t want anybody controlling my mind’, or ‘I might blurt my secrets out’, are demonstrating a total misconception of what hypnosis really is.
The state of hypnosis, a totally natural phenomenon, is most pleasant and particularly relaxing, and a person can converse quite easily whilst within the state. It is inconceivable that any harm could befall them. Indeed, the centuries old technique of hypnosis is being used increasingly along side orthodox medicine where it is proving a valuable alternative to drugs for anaesthesia, to accelerate healing, relieve stress and control pain. A good definition of Hypnosis is: ‘A state of relaxation and concentration at one with a state of heightened awareness induced by suggestion’.
As a therapist I will use my voice to induce you into the state of hypnosis and, although you are unlikely to feel ‘Hypnotised’ as such, you will probably experience a feeling of mental and physical relaxation and your memory may well be enhanced.
You will find that I am a caring, calm, professional person totally devoid of any mystical or magical powers! No flowing robes or swinging watches – just a reassuring manner to put you at ease, and the expertise to help you with your problem.
I offer three entirely different treatments using hypnosis :
SUGGESTION THERAPY – which is used for the simpler things such as smoking cessation, nail-biting, pre-test nerves and weight control etc. and which require one or two sessions with perhaps a booster later on.
ANALYTICAL THERAPY – or Hypno-Analysis which is used to discover causes of anxiety, stress, psychological and emotional problems and symptoms (and of course, I can mix the two therapies). Hypno-Analysis can be summarised briefly as the doctrine of ‘cause and effect’: every effect (the symptom) must have a cause. In other words, you weren’t born with those symptoms. Hypno-Analysis reveals and thus removes the cause, and subsequently relieves the symptoms.
Emotional problems respond particularly well to Conscious ‘Hypno-Analysis’. The object of Analysis is to assist you to release negative feelings and emotions, thereby improving the way you are able to deal with what life has to offer. Usually taking six to ten sessions of Analysis. We are talking about lasting relief, by finding and removing originating causes – as opposed to mere control of symptoms by suggestion.
There is no reason why someone should put up with something’ inside themselves but outside their control’, provided they are prepared to devote time, money, effort and self- discipline to be free of their problem. The use of Conscious Hypnosis dramatically ‘speeds up’ Analysis, and similar results can be achieved in a few weeks as would be expected from a more conventional ‘1000 hour’ Analysis. There really is no equal.
As I hope we have made clear that we deal with many, many problems. You can be sure however, that whether you are a modest smoker merely needing a little help to stop, or you are at the end of your tether with your symptoms, you will in either case receive the best possible attention at all times. As a professional and highly experienced therapist I will respect totally your confidentiality and right to privacy at all times.
There are many myths and misconceptions about hypnosis / hypnotherapy. Most people have seen performances on TV which only serves to enhance their belief that people can be made to do something 'silly' or that you go to sleep or feel 'out of control'.
Nothing could be further from the truth. In reality, hypnotherapy is a wonderfully, deeply relaxing experience, that many clients wish they had chosen much sooner to resolve their problem.
